Having problems with your 1993 Mazda 323 ?

Wiring colours for a Mazda 3 / Ford Laser 1993 stereo. Tricky.

\015 1993 Mazda 3 Stereo Problem. I am trying to wire in a new stereo.I have cut out the old one. I have located the speaker wires and the earth. Now I have to connect the Ignition wire and the battery wire. But there are four available wires to choose from. I think they are to do with the Mazda's old stereo having illumination lighting in the stereo. The one I am installing doesn't have this. The only way I can get the stereo to show life is two wire both the red and yellow from the stereo to the ignition wire which I know is wrongI think I am having trouble finding a battery source.Perhaps someone has encountered this before?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 11-12-2017

Answers :

Take a test light an connect on end to ground and one end to a wire in the radio harness that you think is a positive lead and see if it lights the test light. This is the only option for checking voltage from a wire with the key on. I don't think you'll find a pos lead with constant power with the key off, unless you run a lead from the battery to the radio yourself, fused link of course. Just be sure your working with the radio connector only.
\015\012Thanks.
Typically, the blue/white wire is switched power. Connect the stereo's red wire here. The blue/red wire is continuous power. Connect the yellow wire here. The orange and brown/light green/white wires are interior lights. I took this from a schematic labeled "Typical wiring". Your car may be different.
