Having problems with your 1993 Ford Taurus ?

Car clicks over but don't start.. is the cylinoid seperate from the starter in this model... battery fully charged and power is good so it is either the starter or the cylinoid?

Answers :

Your solenoid on this model is mounted on the starter according to the part I looked up. There are several engines though & I looked up the most popular one.

I would suggest that if you know the battery has good voltage, you clean the terminals & reinstall lthem. If you have full voltage at the battery & a good connection then the solenoid the starter should work. Sometimes the connections need to be cleaned. You can "jump" the solenoid to see if it is bad or not by connecting a heavy gauge jumper cable (or a suitable bridging device) to the large copper bolt on the battery side of the solenoid, and just touching the same cable (opposite end) to the starter side of the solenoid for a second. There should be a spark or two but if it is the solenoid, then jumping it will make the starter work. If you still get a click, you'll need to test the starter. good luck
If the you hear a clicking than go to the solenoid and try and cross over the 2 posts if the starter engages than it is the solenoid that is bad... if not than the starter is bad.
