This condition is a common problem with the 2.5 engine & 2.2 engine. I'll bet the gas mileage is not to good either. First make sure your coolant is full. Then try the car out. If the condition persists, you need to change the coolant sensor, not the temperature sensor. The coolant sensor is located close to the thermostat housing. You may lose a little coolant so make the exchange quickly. Unplug the wiring to the sensor first. Use a deep socket & ratchet. It will come out relatively easy. Install the new one but do not over tighten 14 ft.lbs. & refill the coolant. If you must check it first, warm the car up for a few minutes & unplug the old coolant sensor. It should run much better with the engine hot. Hope this helps! Good luck!
