Sorry I have never seen a Golf with a pieburg carb because I am in the US, but almost all connection to the carb are just 12 volts off the standard ignition circuit. Normally the only connections are either to heat up a choke coil, or to energize an idle cut off solenoid. I suppose it could be possible that some carbs could have current going through some sort of temperature sensor control first, but its seems unlikely.
