Having problems with your 1989 Jeep Cherokee ?

My car sometimes starts in park, then other times i have to put it in neutral.. now it won't start in park or neutral.. please help

In the gear box is a cut off switch it may just have come loos and needs to be done up again have a look under your car at the gear box were the change linkage is and you should see this switch, if its broken the only way to get you going is to short the wires together and it will start the motor up then but dont leave it like this as its not realy very safe if you can start it up in gear
There is a problem in what is called a transmission range sensor. This sensor lets the ignition system know the vehicle is safe to start by being in Park or Neutral. Try replacing the sensor if that doesnt fix it check the wiring of the circuit.
