Answers :

Check that with the front left (as you face it) piston is at TDC, the distributor's rotor (under the cap) points to the #1 spark plug tower location.

Also, check that all wire connections are secure and not shorted/intermittent, etc.

Lastly, check that wires are installed in the correct firing order.

1987 jeep yj 6 cyl manual trans. New fly wheel, clutch, presure plate, and batt. Starter is one month old on old worn flywheel with bad ring gear. Inspected starter gear before reinstalled on the new fly wheel looked ok. When starting there is alot of noise. starts hard, metal poping noise, and a clicking noise like the starter gear is hitting the ring gear but the teeth are not lining up. Any ideas??? It almost sounds like the pickup sensor in the distributor is bad and erratically sending the signal to your control module. You would have to remove the roll pin in the distributor drive gear to disassemble the distributor to access the sensor. ... Ford Bronco II

2000 chevy C2500 wont start. No spark. Replaced distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil and module. First thing I did was try a new crank sensor. No difference. Found one bad plug wire.
