Having problems with your 1988 Volkswagen Jetta ?
Oil leak oil is coming from not the filter itself but the housing it screws into i replaced the crankcase breather hose it was cracked but that was not it
There is a gasket (oring) you need to get from the dealer. Have them print out a diagram of the oil cooler so you can see how it comes apart. Buy the gasket, remove the oil filter, remove the nut that holds the housing together(it will be at the base of the stud that oil filter screws onto, 27mm deep well), clean out the old brittle cracked o-ring and replace it, reverse disassembly, and smile because you were done in less than an hour.
You can get a replacement part that the oil filter screws into...usually its a series of bolts on the side of the engine and it comes off...and a gasket is between needs to be replaced when you do...its a tight fit but fixable
