Fuel filter is in the frame rails under the driver seat its about 3 1/2 inches in diameter. but before you replace that how many miles are on it ? also are u sure its not a timing issue with an 88 you may have worn out ignition parts, depending on if you have a TFI distributor syetem, such as the cap/rotpr, also the moduel could be worn out. its located on the front of the distributor and it takes a 5.5 mm socket but you have to buy a speacial socket at your parts store. good luck with it i have to get back to class now
No that canister is part of the evap system. The fuel filter is located on the frame rail, midway up the underside of the truck maybe just behind the cab. It may be time to look at the fuel pump as well, if that is the original one
