Having problems with your 1987 Toyota Corolla 2 Door ?

Now what? Changed alternator but car still won't start.

\015 We just changed the alternator on a 1987 Toyota Corolla 4 door sedan. The "new" battery was recharged several times to get to the parts store and back and the starter worked fine each time. Once the new/remanf alternator was installed and the battery recharged through a jump, as had happened 5 times before, the car would not start anymore. Answers :

Is this the solution for a starter motor that whirs and does not engage?
\015\012Coincedentally the bottom water hose of the radiator leaks, so must have been running hot.
\015\012Favourite son did not notice this!!
A dropped/disconected starter solenoid cable is a good candidate, a heavy cable runs from the battery to the starter, a lighter cable runs from the ignition to the starter solenoid, the ignition key throws the solenoid which engages the starter pinion gear in the flywheel, and connects the cable to spin the starter motor. even loose may not be producing enoug current to fully engage the starter.
\015\012there is a fusible link in the battery cable that is a good candidate.
\015\012if the battery were disconnected during alternator changeover, look for loose cables at the battery posts, and corrosion on the posts.
\015\012if the battery was not disconnected look for collapsed positive plates on one or more cells of the battery..
